tijdreizen op zolder

Een onverwachte vrije dag, en geen zonnetje te zien.  Wat ga je doen ?  Mmmmmmm  (denkt hard na) Misschien moet ik mijn zomerkleren en sandaaltjes van de zolder halen, en binnen handbereik zetten. Zou dat helpen om het zomergevoel te forceren ?

De zoldertrap open geklapt, en pffff.  Het is precies alsof de dozen zich vermenigvuldigen elk jaar.  Waar staan die sandalen toch ?   Eens kijken wat er zich voorbij de dozen met wol, het kerstgerief en oud servies nog verbergt.

jaargang 1977 - 1991 !

Hé, kijk hier, mijn oude Ariadnes !  Heerlijk, die handwerkboekjes.  Herinneringen ! en jeetje ook de oude phildar boeken.  Die dateren van uit de jaren 70 en 80, toen er vlakbij ons ouderlijk huis een phildar winkel was, en mijn moeder ons vaak liet breien of haken.  Ze vond dat een goede hobby voor haar 2 dochters.  Ach, die trui heb ik gemaakt, afgewerkt met leren lintjes.  Zoooo 80ies.
Nog wat verder graven.

en dan stoot je op 2 grote dozen vol zelfgemaakte babykleertjes.  1991 en 1993. De zonen zijn ondertussen allebei het huis uit, en stellen het wel.
Kijk hoe klein !  en die kleuren, OMG zo vreselijk.  Nu hou ik van naturel, en grijzen en blauwen.  toen duidelijk niet, hihi.

Mijn naaikunsten zijn toch een beetje verbeterd ondertussen.  Dat colletje zit niet helemaal zoals het hoort, maar ik had het toch mooi met de hand afgewerkt.  en kijk, de salopette is onderaan afgewerkt met dezelfde stof als het hemdje.  

Dit was ooit een cadeautje van een Spaanse mevrouw toen ik zwanger was.  Ze hebben het nooit gedragen, het was eerder voor een meisje, niet ?  Maar zo mooi, met al die kleine witte bloemetjes.

De olifanten trui was een gigantisch succes : Arnootje heeft het héél veel gedragen.

Ik kan me niet herinneren dat ze dit veel gedragen hebben.  Het heeft een erg hoog pierrot gehalte, nu ik het terug zie.  Bah. Smaken kunnen veranderen.

Met al m'n restjes breide ik dit gileetje.  Dat hebben ze ook veel aangehad, want het paste bij elke broek. 

nog wat  verder graven, en kijk.  Ach.  ik zit in de jaren 60.  Dit katoenen jurkje heeft het al die jaren overleefd.  Ja, ik heb het zelf gedragen toen ik baby was.  Later mocht mijn pop, Suzy, het dragen. En nu hangt het fris gewassen aan de lijn te drogen.  Er is niets aan.  Dat was super kwaliteit toen !

retro beanie

I am knitting a cardigan for myself, in fair isle.  A work of patience, all those small stiches in a row.
Therefore, I need some distraction.  A small project, quick to finish.
And when something like this comes along on facebook, it was love at first sight.

I bought the pattern, and the babywool from Bergère de France and set out to knit intarsia.
Who remembers the little plastic fish - dangling on your needle ?  I has been ages since I used them. Probably from since the boys were little and I knitted them sweaters with footballs on, or Zorro.

Well, this is the result.  I love the combination of light blue / red.  It reminds me of something my mother knit for my doll, Mireille.  Those were exact the same colours. I am speaking of the 1960ies....

Now for a little girl who can wear this. The pattern included little mitts too....  aren't they cute ?

 

a warm hat for the cold days

In winter time, it's all about keeping the young ones warm.  This Ladybug hat is too cute, and I think it can be worn by a boy as well as a girl.

It was knit up very quickly, and had some fun parts, like the flap is knit with Wrap&Turn technique, and the antenna's are Icords.  And I made the pompons with this plastic device I recently got in the knitting shop, and Lo and Behold, it actually works !

another little project I finished is this baby hat & socks.  It is knit in super soft baby merino, I got at the Knitting exhibition in Zwolle.  I love it....

it's owl or nothing

I was home early today, and sat down in front of the pc with a cup of tea and some time to surf around blogland.
I just read the latest post on tangled happy.  There is a reference to  Sarah's blog  where you can find a super (and free) pattern for a little baby hat.  It's owl-shaped, and very easy to make. 
And it just happened that I had some left-over wool in just the right colours, so I started to make one.  (Sometimes I just can't help it, I start a new project, and forget the more pressing matters like preparing food for the men....)
In just over an hour it was all finished.  and this is the result :

In my country the owl is a symbol for wisdom.  But if someone calls you 'an owl' it is not a compliment.  It means you are stupid.  Funny...

a gift for a little baby boy

One of the ladies in my sewing club (chic et pas cher) has given birth to a lovely baby boy.   His name is Camiel, and he weighs 4kg300gr ,  which is quite heavy !

A newborn baby : to me that is an excellent reason to leaf through my baby knitting patterns, and find something nice to make her a gift.

a very straightforward pattern

the pattern is very easy, perfect for beginners.
I knitted it on circular needles though, to avoid a seam at the back of the baby's head.
That may be uncomfortable when the little gentleman is lying down in his pram.

I like the colours for a boy.

an old treasure and a question for you

I met another knitter in Bruges, and we had a very nice conversation.  This lady knits all sorts of clothes for dolls and teddybears.  She uses old cottons and linnens, with stains and colour fading.  That is how she obtains a result that looks very old, but in fact was knitted only last week... !  How clever is that !

 She has a very special pattern for a little hat, and I couldn't resist buying one.  It is so cute !  I think it is based on a pattern used in the Netherlands, for traditional headwear of the Dutch women in one of the regions there. Am I right ?   Perhaps one of my Dutch followers knows more about it ?  I would appreciate it very much if you could give me some more information about this pattern, it seems very exciting to knit !

Even in het Nederlands :

Ik had een gesprek met een mevrouw uit Brugge, die poppenkleedjes en berenkleedjes breit.  Ze gebruikt daarvoor oude resten katoen en vlas, met vlekjes en kleurverschillen in.  Zo verkrijgt ze een oud resultaat, maar zijn de kleertjes wel nog maar pas gebreid.  Leuk gevonden !
Maar wat ik heel mooi vond is een speciaal patroon dat ze gebruikt voor een mutsje.  Het wordt gebreid vanuit een cirkel, waaraan ze dan de rest verder breit, zodat er een soort kapje ontstaat.  Volgens mij is dat een patroon dat ook gebruikt wordt in de Nederlandse traditionele dames kostuums.  Meer weet ik er niet van, uit welke regio of stad, maar misschien kan er iemand van mijn Nederlandse volgers een tip van de sluier oplichten ? 
Het lijkt me een prachtig patroon om te breien... !

converse baby booties - photo tutorial

I really like these booties, they are a perfect gift for a baby boy.  But the free pattern description I found on Ravelry is not so easy.  So I took some pitures while I was knitting them, to make a photo - tutorial.  A picture tells more and is sometimes easier to follow.
They are knit on 2 needles, and I used 2,5 mm needles. the wool is actually for 3 or 3.5 mm needles, but I prefer a firm knit for little shoes.

This is what you need

The main colour is white, the complementary colour is red.  Split the red in 2 skeins.  You will also need a tool to put stitches apart, like a huge safety pin.

2 : Slip 1 stitch, purl 7 white stitches.  There remain 3 white stitches.  Purl 2 stitches together.  There remains 1 white stitch on the needle.  Do not knit it, turn again to start the next knitting row.

5 : slip 1 stitch, k7, slip the last white stitch without knitting it, knit 1 red. pass over the white stitch. Make sure you twist the white and red thread on the back of your work, to avoid funny loose stiches.

5 : haal 1 steek af.  7 rechts, haal de laatste witte steek af, brei 1 rode rechts, haal de witte lus over de rode steek.  zorg ervoor dat je de witte en rode draad kruist aan de achterkant van je werk, zo voorkom je rare losse steken.
