tijdreizen op zolder

Een onverwachte vrije dag, en geen zonnetje te zien.  Wat ga je doen ?  Mmmmmmm  (denkt hard na) Misschien moet ik mijn zomerkleren en sandaaltjes van de zolder halen, en binnen handbereik zetten. Zou dat helpen om het zomergevoel te forceren ?

De zoldertrap open geklapt, en pffff.  Het is precies alsof de dozen zich vermenigvuldigen elk jaar.  Waar staan die sandalen toch ?   Eens kijken wat er zich voorbij de dozen met wol, het kerstgerief en oud servies nog verbergt.

Hé, kijk hier, mijn oude Ariadnes !  Heerlijk, die handwerkboekjes.  Herinneringen ! en jeetje ook de oude phildar boeken.  Die dateren van uit de jaren 70 en 80, toen er vlakbij ons ouderlijk huis een phildar winkel was, en mijn moeder ons vaak liet breien of haken.  Ze vond dat een goede hobby voor haar 2 dochters.  Ach, die trui heb ik gemaakt, afgewerkt met leren lintjes.  Zoooo 80ies.
Nog wat verder graven.

en dan stoot je op 2 grote dozen vol zelfgemaakte babykleertjes.  1991 en 1993. De zonen zijn ondertussen allebei het huis uit, en stellen het wel.
Kijk hoe klein !  en die kleuren, OMG zo vreselijk.  Nu hou ik van naturel, en grijzen en blauwen.  toen duidelijk niet, hihi.

Mijn naaikunsten zijn toch een beetje verbeterd ondertussen.  Dat colletje zit niet helemaal zoals het hoort, maar ik had het toch mooi met de hand afgewerkt.  en kijk, de salopette is onderaan afgewerkt met dezelfde stof als het hemdje.  

Dit was ooit een cadeautje van een Spaanse mevrouw toen ik zwanger was.  Ze hebben het nooit gedragen, het was eerder voor een meisje, niet ?  Maar zo mooi, met al die kleine witte bloemetjes.

De olifanten trui was een gigantisch succes : Arnootje heeft het héél veel gedragen.

Ik kan me niet herinneren dat ze dit veel gedragen hebben.  Het heeft een erg hoog pierrot gehalte, nu ik het terug zie.  Bah. Smaken kunnen veranderen.

Met al m'n restjes breide ik dit gileetje.  Dat hebben ze ook veel aangehad, want het paste bij elke broek. 

nog wat  verder graven, en kijk.  Ach.  ik zit in de jaren 60.  Dit katoenen jurkje heeft het al die jaren overleefd.  Ja, ik heb het zelf gedragen toen ik baby was.  Later mocht mijn pop, Suzy, het dragen. En nu hangt het fris gewassen aan de lijn te drogen.  Er is niets aan.  Dat was super kwaliteit toen !

Nog een beetje verder graven.  Tiens, een blauwe deur ?  Das nieuw.  's kijken waar die naartoe leidt.  

knitting excursion

Once in a while, the 'Vrijstaat O' knitting club decides it is time for an excursion.  Chris, one of our faithful  knitters, works at the Bozar.  The Bozar (palais des Beaux Arts) is the Museum of Arts in our capital city, Brussels.  While we knit, she always talks about the beautiful exhibitions, and now it is something we are all interested in : Belgian Fashion.

It is something to be proud of.  Belgian Fashion Designers are worldwide acknowledged to be exeptional.  Surreal (that is typical Belgian - the painter Magritte was Belgian - ceci n'est pas une pipe - remember? ) Avant -Garde and Explicit are the 3 words that describe our fashion at its best.  Take a look at these 3 items.

So we decided to get together and travel by train to the Bozar, and spend a nice day in Brussels.
We enjoyed the exhibition a lot, Chris was so kind to explain and tell us the 'little history' behind the objects.  She actually travelled to her work on her day off....  just for us !

 

crochet by Ann Salens, a 70-ies designer

 Ann Salens was a girl from Oostende (my home town) with a talent for crochet. During the 70ies she dressed international stars in her handmade dresses.  I was still a young girl in the 70ies, but she inspired me to copy her designs for my barbie dolls.  Still love her work !

The replica of Mary's dress

The St Andries church in Antwerp has a very modern priest.  He wanted a dress for his statue of Mary, and he contacted Ann De Meulemeester.  She designed something very frail, and exquisite.  This one in the museum is just a replica.  Once a year Ann takes the gown to clean it, and then Mary is wearing the replica. You find this hard to believe ?  Well, this is Belgium.

In the afternoon we sat outside in the adjoining park.  We knitted and chatted and enjoyed the company.  Knitters from Oostende met knitters from Ghent and Hasselt. The sun was shining and time sure flies by when you're having fun.

some new summer dresses

The sun is supposed to shine, but instead it's a becoming a typical Belgian summer : gray and dull weather, rain, clouds, and temperatures not rising above 18°C.  Only the brave are on the beach, and fully clothed as well.   
To keep my spirits up, I have made some summer dresses, in flower power colours.  Sitting here, at my kitchen table, sewing and ironing, it feels like a winter holiday. 
Who or what do we have to offer to the sun goddess so that she will remember to shine on our little spot on this earth ?
Any suggestions ?

a rainy afternoon

Horrible weather today !  It's raining and cold and lots of wind.  Just right for a cosy afternoon of crafting... !
My eldest son has a very nice girlfriend, Lisa.  She's a girlie girl : interested in all things feminine.  It's been real fun with her this afternoon !  Remember my seventies dress ?  Well I used that pattern to make her a cute little dress too.  Actually, she did a lot of it herself.  It was the first time for her handling a sewing machine and she's managed the zigzagging perfectly.  We had a good time, and the result was just perfect.  Here's a picture of her enjoying the stiching. 

Vreselijk weer vandaag !  Regen, koud, wind...  een dag om binnen te blijven en wat te handwerken.  Lisa, het vriendinnetje van mijn oudste zoon was er ook.  Ze is een echt 'meisje' met een grote interesse in handwerken en koken.  We hebben ons vreselijk geamuseerd deze namiddag.  Weet je nog mijn seventies dress ?  Wel, ik heb dat patroon gebruikt om voor haar een overgooier te maken.  En eigenlijk heeft ze heel veel zelf gedaan.  Voor het eerst achter een naaimachine, heel netjes en secuur gezigzagd en gestikt.  Het resultaat is een perfect zittend jurkje.  Een mooi meisje in een mooi jurkje hihi.  Hier zie je een foto van haar noeste arbeid.

a real seventies dress

Last week, I heard Nina sold out all her mum's stuff.  Her mother died last year, and she finally got round to clearing out the flat.  I went round, because her mum was a hat maker, stylist and made her own dresses.  Nina had found cupboards full of  fabrics, needles, ribbons, pins, bobbins with silk threads, and a collection really nice seventies accessoires.  I found myself in Ali Baba's cave !  I could have bought it all !  Today I got around to turning one of the fabrics into a dress. A job well done, right ? How do you like it ? 

Vorige week heb ik van Nina een heleboel stofjes en allerlei accessoires gekocht.  Nina verkocht de hele inboedel van haar mama, die vorig jaar overleden is.  Haar mama was hoedenmaakster, styliste en maakte ook haar eigen kledij.  De kasten puilden uit van de stofjes, lintjes, garen, spelden, bandjes, voering, vilt, wol, katoen,...  ik voelde me als in de grot van Ali Baba !  Enkel ontzettend mooie (en originele) seventies stofjes kon ik niet laten liggen.  Vandaag heb ik er een overgooier van gemaakt.  Een eenvoudig patroon, want de print is erg druk.  Maar ik vind het mooi gelukt !
