I am busy making some xmas gifts for the young people in my family.  Ravelry offers many cute ideas for one skein projects, and this is the result : 2 mobile phone covers in Hello-Kitty style, and one 'scary monster' for my nephew. I hope they will like it !

baby knittings

At my work, we are having a real baby-boom.  Lots of my young colleagues are pregnant.  So many little boys and girls are coming into this world, it's amazing.  Not that I need an excuse to knit some baby stuff...  I always keep a box of give-aways ready.  Many of these gifts have left me without being photographed.  One of the nice aspects of this blog, is that I now take pictures of everything I make, and that's a good souvenir.  So here goes : the baby box opens up...

Op mijn werk zijn er zoveel jonge collega's zwanger, dat we een echte baby-boom beleven.  Allemaal kleine baby's die in deze wereld komen piepen.  En de gebruikelijke zwangerschapsverhalen worden opnieuw bovengehaald.  Sommige collega's geven blijk van inspiratie wanneer ze hun bevallingsverhalen kruiden met echte horror...  Enfin, ik heb geen excuus nodig om af en toe eens een leuk babypakje te breien.  Niets beters om een restje wol op te gebruiken als een knuffeltje haken of een paar slofjes te breien.  Een van de vele voordelen van een blog is dat ik nu van alles een foto neem.  Als ik het cadeautje dan weggegeven heb, blijft toch nog een beetje de herinnering dankzij deze blog. a new shopping bag

hoi lezers, 
Vanmorgen ben ik aan de slag gegaan met restjes stof.  Ik heb er een tasje van gemaakt (afm. 30 x 33 x 12 cm)  Een stukje groen geribd fluweel en voor de voering een stukje lichtgroen van oude gordijnstof. Het tasje is juist groot genoeg om een A4 map in te stoppen, en ook stevig genoeg om al dat papier te dragen.   Het is erg goed gelukt vind ik.  Ik hou het patroon bij, misschien maak ik nog een versie in andere stof dan.  Een oude gehaakte broche staat er mooi op hé ?
Moest iemand het patroon en de werkbeschrijving willen, geef me een seintje via email;  Ik stuur het je gratis op.

This morning I made this bag out of little bits of left-over fabric.  It's just big enough for an A4 file and strong enough to hold all that heavy paper.  The old pink broche is quite nice on it, isn't it ?

a real seventies dress

Last week, I heard Nina sold out all her mum's stuff.  Her mother died last year, and she finally got round to clearing out the flat.  I went round, because her mum was a hat maker, stylist and made her own dresses.  Nina had found cupboards full of  fabrics, needles, ribbons, pins, bobbins with silk threads, and a collection really nice seventies accessoires.  I found myself in Ali Baba's cave !  I could have bought it all !  Today I got around to turning one of the fabrics into a dress. A job well done, right ? How do you like it ? 

Vorige week heb ik van Nina een heleboel stofjes en allerlei accessoires gekocht.  Nina verkocht de hele inboedel van haar mama, die vorig jaar overleden is.  Haar mama was hoedenmaakster, styliste en maakte ook haar eigen kledij.  De kasten puilden uit van de stofjes, lintjes, garen, spelden, bandjes, voering, vilt, wol, katoen,...  ik voelde me als in de grot van Ali Baba !  Enkel ontzettend mooie (en originele) seventies stofjes kon ik niet laten liggen.  Vandaag heb ik er een overgooier van gemaakt.  Een eenvoudig patroon, want de print is erg druk.  Maar ik vind het mooi gelukt !

recycled bag

A friend of mine, Simone, has given me this bag. It's made of old plastic bags.  These bags are cut up in long strips, and they are crocheted together to form this bag.  Simone wasn't happy with it because of its shape.  Too big at the bottom, too small at the top, she said.  But I think it's just right.  I love it to go shopping for vegetables and fruits.  And I really like the colours too.  And most importantly I think it's a great way to recycle the old bags, in stead of throwing them away. Thanks Simone !
Een vriendin van me, Simone, heeft me deze tas gegeven.  Hij is gemaakt van oude plastic tassen die je in lange repen snijdt, en dan vasthaakt.  Simone vond de vorm van de tas niet goed gelukt : hij was onderaan te breed en bovenaan te smal.  Maar ik vind hem perfect om groenten en fruit mee te halen. Leuke kleurtjes ook !  Bovendien is het een fijne manier om te recycleren.     Merci Simone !

a miracle took place !

A miracle story :

I have 2 sons.  Jonas is the youngest.  he is now 17.  When he was a child, I used to knit several sweaters for him. You know, the ones with the Disney figures on the front, or 'cowboy style'.  He used to be so proud to wear them.
But then things changed : he grew up to be a handsome young boy, with a cool factor of +15.  (on a scale of 10) wearing lots of black t-shirts with heavy metal stuff  on the front.  There was no way he would wear one of my sweaters.  So I was stuck to knitting hats, or socks, or perhaps a scarf.  Homemade stuff unfortunately  seemed to have a cool factor below freezing point, so it appeared.

So you can imagine how surprised I was when yesterday he asked me to knit him ... a sweater !  He had a clear picture in his mind of how the sweater should look : as plain as possible, no fancy stiches, just a round collar and RED !     So I happily hurried to the yarn shop, picked up a lovely brick red yarn  - and a bit of grey to soften it up.  (just a small trimming in grey, no panic)  Then I spent a couple of hours on the internet searching for a pattern (nothing fancy mum ! ) and got it from Drops.  (loads of free patternes, you must have a look !)  So, what do you think, readers ?  Will he like it ?

this is the beginning ...

zilveren juweel gehaakt

Hoi lezers,

 ik was vorige week door een tijdschrift over interieursaan het bladeren,  met veel artistieke zwart/wit foto's.  Het gaf me zin om nog eens een zilveren juweel te haken, om op mijn zwarte trui te dragen.  Dit is het resultaat.  Ik noem het prototype 1.  Het leek me leuk om kleine rondjes te haken, en die dan met een paar donkere glaspareltjes aaneen te rijgen.  De uitstekende draadjes wou ik eerst wegwerken, maar ik vond het eigenlijk wel een speels effect hebben.  Dus zijn ze eraan gebleven.   Ik maakte ook oorbellen die erbij passen.
